The Hypnotic Truth About The Hair Pulling Fetish

Well I never! I’ve always wondered what the attraction was with the hair pulling fetish. But as with all fetishes that I don’t understand, I have a laissez faire approach, waiting patiently for the day when I will understand better.

And now I understand the fundamentals of the hair pulling fetish. In fact I feel as if the hair pulling fetish and hypnosis could be first cousins.

I happened across this article on the Powererotics BDSM web site on the effects that hair pulling has on brain wave patterns. As many of you know, being familiar with hypnotic states, there are four main brainwave patterns. This is a scientific fact.

Beta brain waves are the normal alert waking state of the brain. Technically, as I type now, I am in Beta brain wave state.

Alpha waves produce a detached awareness and profound relaxation, which is the way that you feel when you find yourself drifting into trance.

Theta waves occur in the dream state, the twilight zone. And the Delta wave state occurs during deep sleep. This would be the somnambulistic state in hypnosis and I know many of you love to go deeper and deeper, then wake up and wonder when and how you got undressed.

The act of hair pulling induces these patterns.

Soft and gentle (massage-like) pulling will usually actually feel comfortable, writes the author of an article that used to be on the PowerErotic web site before it went down.  On the other hand,  fierce, painful pulling to most people almost feels like a personal insult. Another interesting observation is that, in general, at a subconcious level, grabbing the hair feels like grabbing the brain itself (hence taking control over it). Hypnosis takes control away from a subject willing to surrender control to a hypnotist.* *

So while I’ve always been particularly careful to massage the scalp gently during an induction, or as a post hypnotic trigger, I may now start to experiment with gentle tugging of the hair, to further stimulate the brain wave patterns.

And on a sombre note, I wonder if this has any bearing on the stress related response of hair pulling that leaves the sufferer bald in places due to the yanking out of hair. I may need to read more into this for therapeutic reasons.
